Day creams, night creams, gel moisturizers, face oils, mists and neck creams. Canadian skin often needs two moisturizers a year: a lighter gel or lotion for humid summer months and something richer, with ceramides, shea or squalane, once the heating comes on and the air outside drops below freezing.

What to look for: texture matched to your skin (gel for oily, cream for dry, a balm or occlusive layer at night for very dry or windburned skin); fragrance-free if you are sensitive; and a separate sunscreen for the morning unless the moisturizer carries a DIN or NPN with an SPF. Apply to slightly damp skin to hold more water in.
