Not a Perfume by Juliette Has A Gun is a minimalist eau de parfum built around a single synthetic molecule (cetalox/ambrox) for a clean, long-lasting musky scent.
Designed by Romano Ricci under the Juliette Has A Gun label, Not a Perfume (1.7 fl oz) strips fragrance down to one ingredient—cetalox—so the result reads as a skin-like, contemporary aroma rather than a traditional blended perfume. Originally developed as a basenote in many compositions, cetalox (often labeled ambrox or C16H28O) is elevated here to the starring role, offering a pure, allergen-free interpretation of musk and amber facets.
On the skin, Not a Perfume reads as a soft, clean musk with subtle amber warmth and a mineral-smooth edge. It adapts to body chemistry rather than layering many floral or spice accords, so scent intensity and character can feel intimate and understated.
Not a Perfume is an Eau de Parfum concentration, meaning it’s formulated for extended wear compared with lighter concentrations. Longevity varies by skin type and conditions but typically provides several hours of noticeable scent that settles into a subtle, persistent veil.
Not a Perfume is notable for its minimalist formula focused on a single synthetic molecule and is marketed as free from common perfume allergens. While that reduces exposure to many typical fragrance allergens, individual sensitivities can still occur—patch testing is recommended if you have known fragrance reactions.
Keep application simple to preserve the fragrance’s minimalist identity: spray sparingly on pulse points or lightly mist clothing. It pairs well with unscented moisturizers or can be layered subtly with complementary woody or citrus notes if you prefer more complexity—avoid heavy accords that overpower cetalox’s nuance.
Who is this for? Not a Perfume suits anyone seeking a modern, pared-back fragrance that reads as an extension of the skin rather than a statement perfume. It appeals to minimalists, office-conscious wearers, and those curious about molecular perfumery—especially people who prefer subtle musk and amber tones without a multi-ingredient blend.
